The Strategic Partnerships & Workforce Development Division recently attended the 11th Annual CCEMC Dual Enrollment Summit in South San Francisco. This local conference provided an ideal opportunity for our team to connect with Dual Enrollment programs statewide and exchange innovative strategies.

The summit started with a Student Panel featuring Middle College students, who shared insights on on-campus support groups that facilitated their transition to 4-year universities. Additional workshops explored topics such as:
The neuroscience behind adolescent brain development, the effects of the pandemic on the brain, and effective scaffolding techniques for educators are discussed.
“But I didn’t sign up to teach high school!” which discussed Golden West College’s approach to successfully encouraging college instructors to teach Dual Enrollment by providing great scaffolding and support for their success.
“You BELONG at Long Beach City College” shared research-based best practices used to address the systemic barriers present within LBCC and its Dual Enrollment programs, which have previously hindered black and Latinx students from participating in Dual Enrollment programs.
The Skyline College Biotechnology Pathways successes, led by Professor Michael Fuller, demonstrated how incorporating work-based learning opportunities and micro-credentials has increased student interest!

The conference concluded with a division-wide discussion led by Dr. Lauren Ford, Dean of Strategic Partnerships & Workforce Development, to develop actionable strategies for Skyline College’s Dual Enrollment and Middle College programs.

The Dual Enrollment and Middle College programs allow high school students to simultaneously earn high school and college credits. If you would like to learn more about these programs, please reach out to:
