On March 18, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Skyline College hosted Community Conversations: TRIO/GSP/CalWORKs/EOPS/CARE/NextUP/Project Change, an engaging and open forum designed to foster meaningful dialogue among students and staff. This event provided a safe and welcoming space for students to share their experiences, voice concerns, and explore available resources while strengthening their sense of community.

The gathering was designed as an informal yet impactful discussion, where students and staff sat together in a circle format, allowing for open and comfortable conversations. The transformation of the room into an inclusive space encouraged students to engage in honest discussions about their academic journeys, personal challenges, and the role of support programs in their success.

Throughout the session, students expressed how these programs have provided them with vital assistance in financial aid, academic guidance, mental health support, and career planning. Staff members from TRIO, GSP, CalWORKs, EOPS, CARE, NextUp, and Project Change actively participated in the discussion, offering insights and reaffirming their commitment to supporting students.

A key takeaway from this event was the realization that, while many of our programs have historically hosted individual student-centered events, bringing these programs together in a collaborative conversation enhances the overall impact. Recognizing the importance of unity and shared experiences, the event organizers plan to continue hosting Community Conversations each semester, providing students with ongoing opportunities to check in, connect, and advocate for their needs.

With the success of this first gathering, we look forward to expanding these discussions, ensuring that Skyline College remains a place where students feel heard, valued, and supported.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped bring this event to life, and we look forward to seeing you all at the next Community Conversations event on April 15, 2025!
