On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Skyline College’s Career Services, in collaboration with Dual Enrollment, visited Capuchino High School to begin a workshop series where students will learn the tricks of the trade for getting hired.

Ron Chand, a Career Readiness Coordinator, developed a workshop series specifically tailored for high school students. In total, there will be three workshops, each building upon the others, culminating with a mock interview event held on campus here at Skyline College (stay tuned for more information).

The first workshop, titled “Translating Class Experience into Work Experience,” focuses on how students can use class work as professional skills to put on their resume, and it is a great way to bolster their “work” experience. The class will examine typical classwork they may do on any given school day and learn how to reframe it. For example, using group work, a common class activity, to translate into work experience, because just like in the office, in a group, one must collaborate, liaise, and patiently work with others.

The second workshop, titled “Interviewing or How to Make a Great Lasting Impression,” focuses on how to prepare for the different kinds of interviews and what students can expect. Further, students will learn to present themselves professionally and avoid silly mistakes, such as wearing sweatpants to an interview, that could disqualify them.

In the third and final workshop for the semester, titled “How to Hype Yourself,” students will learn how to network effectively in person and online to broaden their employment pool. Students learned how to leverage their skills, speak effectively about them at career fairs, utilize informational interviews, and use elevator pitches to build contacts in a field they may want to pursue.

In an ever-competitive job market, especially for entry-level jobs, high schoolers or recent graduates need to use every trick in the book to get that call back.
