Building Tomorrow, Together: Shaping Our Future Today
October 12–15, 2025 | Hyatt Regency Santa Clara
This week, representatives from the (EAC) Educational Access Center at Skyline College and (DRC) Disability Resource Centers, College of San Mateo, and Cañada College attended the 51st Annual CAPED Convention, themed “Building Tomorrow, Together: Shaping Our Future Today.”

This statewide gathering brought together professionals committed to advancing access, equity, and inclusion for students with disabilities in higher education. The conference focused on assistive technology, advocacy, and innovative strategies to strengthen student support services across California’s community colleges.
Participants engaged in sessions highlighting new technologies, best practices in disability accommodations, and the evolving role of AI and accessibility tools in the classroom. The event also fostered collaboration among the three San Mateo County Community College District campuses, an opportunity rarely shared to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships, and develop new ways to enhance services for students with disabilities.
The convention featured themed days celebrating advocacy, school spirit, and the CAPED community’s ongoing dedication to equity and inclusion in postsecondary education.
Attendees included:
- Skyline College: Melissa Matthew, Jessica Truglio, and Karmann Robbins
- College of San Mateo: Alexis Delevett, Justin Kawakami, Kevin Sinarle, Zulema Esparza, and Hirania Gonzalez
- Cañada College: Dr. DeVon Scott and Ingrid Martinez (with Karmann Robbins also representing Cañada)
The CAPED Convention reinforced the collective mission of our sister campuses to innovate, collaborate, and continue shaping inclusive environments where all students can thrive.
