The Great American Smokeout is a significant event that promotes smoking cessation and encourages healthier lifestyles. This year, first-year Respiratory Care students at Skyline College took part in the event by practicing vital skills at the STEM Center. They honed their techniques for taking blood pressure, listening to heart and lung sounds, and practicing other essential vital-sign skills. This event provided students with hands-on experience that will serve them well in their future careers as respiratory care practitioners.

Respiratory care practitioners play a vital role in healthcare, caring for patients with heart and lung conditions, providing oxygen therapy, and offering life support. The students’ participation in the Great American Smokeout aligns with their studies, underscoring the importance of respiratory health and the dangers of smoking.
