On Tuesday, September 8, 2023, the Black N Brown Scholars (BNBS) hosted an Open House for our men of color to connect with faculty and classified professionals at Skyline College. With over 50 students in attendance, the event was held in person at the Undocumented Community Center.
Our BNBS had the opportunity to meet faculty and staff who identify as men of color from Promise Scholars Program, Outreach, Admissions & Records, Counseling, Faculty, Undocumented Community Center, and Student Life.
In order to know where you are headed, you need to know where you come from.
The theme of this event was “Back In The Day,” inspired by a 1990s rap song by Ahmad titled “Back in the Day.” Using this theme, our students engaged in a paired icebreaker where they had the opportunity to meet and learn about other young men of color.
In addition, students were able to get to know each other, voice their opinions and perspectives on what they would like to see from Black N Brown Scholars, and ways they can contribute to form a community that is both collaborative and receptive to all that attend.
