On February 10, 2025, Biotech Instructor, Dr. Jing Folsom and a group of students visited Guardant Health, a leading biotech company specializing in conquering cancer with blood test data. The Senior Director, Dr. Brent Witgen, began by introducing the company’s rich history, unique culture, and the various benefits they offer to employees. In addition, they learned about several open positions within the company. During the tour, Skyline alumni, Leslie Igtanloc, shared her personal journey at Guardant Health, talking about how she got promoted and why she loved working there.

Leslie and her supervisor, Lisi Johnson, guided the group on a tour of the facilities, highlighting the work areas and giving insight into the workflow processes. It was fascinating to observe their operations firsthand. They had prepared pastries and tea, which added a warm touch to the visit. After the tour, the group gathered for a lunch debrief to discuss our impressions and ask further questions about the company.

It is such a privilege to tour a company that is in the field of my study by an alumni of Skyline College to preview what I can expect from the role I will be positioned in once I finish my education and earn my certificate.

I thought that the facilities and people working there were really nice and it looked like a very enjoyable place to work. It was really helpful for me as a Biotechnology student to see how a company works from the inside.

This field trip was an incredible learning experience where I not only gained valuable insights into the biotech industry but also had the opportunity to connect with professionals in the field. Engaging with experts and observing the workflow firsthand deepened my understanding of biotech processes and potential career paths.

My experience at the company was actually much more simplistic than what I anticipated initially. The employees have fun working to actively get results for the many people who suffer from cancer! It was inspiring also.
