Ten Skyline College students pushed past nerves, sat for two mock interviews, and came out more confident and career-ready. Each student was paired with a professional who volunteered their time to help students build confidence and enhance their ability to discuss their experiences. For many of the students, it was their first time sitting down with someone for an interview.

The Biotech Mock Interview Event was organized by Biotech Professors Jing Folsom and Nick Kapp as well as Career Readiness Coordinator Laura DeKelaita. This practice session was designed to help prepare students for the Bay Area Life Science Career Expo—an event that connects job seekers with top life science employers in the region.

After the interviews, everyone gathered to reflect. For the students, the experience was very meaningful. One student said, “It helped me remember how to tell my story. I want to do more mock interviews—this was a great experience.”

Empowering students begins with creating spaces where they can practice, grow, and discover their capabilities. These events are a powerful way to support students as they prepare for real opportunities.
