Skyline College’s Beta Theta Omicron chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society returned from the PTK NV/CA Regional Spring Conference in Los Angeles (March 13–14) with an outstanding collection of awards and recognition. This capped a remarkable weekend that showcased the chapter’s scholarship, leadership, and community spirit.

The chapter’s most celebrated honor was being named the Most Distinguished Chapter in the NV/CA Region, placing Beta Theta Omicron at the top among 92 chapters across Nevada and California. The chapter also earned the distinction of being the only chapter recognized for participation in all 8 regional project categories, reflecting the breadth and dedication of the BOO team.

Individual recognitions were equally impressive. Chapter President Genevieve Caamal was named 2nd Most Distinguished Chapter Officer in the Region. Portia Luong received the 3rd Most Distinguished Faculty Recognition Award, and Christian Sanchez was honored with the Regional Alumni Award.

The chapter’s regional team awards rounded out a sweep of the competition:
● Most Distinguished Chapter in the NV/CA Region
● Most Distinguished Honors in Action Award – Theme 6: Stories of Persistence, Resilience, Healing, and Sorrow
● Most Distinguished Officer Team Award
● 2nd Most Distinguished College Project
● 3rd Most Distinguished Honors in Action Award
Beyond the awards, Beta Theta Omicron members gave back to the regional community by presenting two well-received workshops. Noel Aung and Knox Lwin led a session on growth mindset, while Genevieve Caamal and Qian Zhao facilitated a workshop on leadership styles, both workshops drawing content from their experience as officers and campus leaders.

These regional honors are just the beginning. The chapter now sets its sights on Phi Theta Kappa’s international convention, PTK Catalyst, taking place in just two weeks, where they hope to carry this momentum onto the national stage.
All of this would not be possible without a supportive campus community. Thank you to everyone who supported the chapter. 💙
