The Beta Theta Omicron Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) at Skyline College continues to demonstrate exceptional leadership and community engagement through their projects, campus engagements, and active participation in regional events.

Research Project Amplifies Student Voices
PTK members are bringing together their voices in an action research project examining how personal narratives can challenge stereotypes and boost student success. The project began with intensive discussion and literature research sessions over the summer. It explored the question: “How do you counter stories impacting student performance and self-efficacy built through generational and societal stereotypes?”
The team is now collecting powerful stories from Skyline College students, which will be transformed into an educational video resource. This video will be shared with K-12 students throughout the San Mateo community, with chapter members actively building partnerships with local schools to extend their reach.
Supporting Campus Diversity
Aligned with Skyline College’s commitment to equity and inclusion, the chapter has actively celebrated campus diversity through its College Project. This initiative supports the administration’s mission of highlighting the rich cultural tapestry that makes our campus community unique. This academic year, the chapter is actively collaborating with the Critical Global Citizenship Education team and contributing to the programming.

Fall Semester Highlights
The chapter has organized several successful events this semester, demonstrating their commitment to student success and well-being:
● A comprehensive scholarship workshop helping students access educational funding
● A timely mental health awareness session
● An academic success workshop focusing on study skills
● Community-building social events to foster student connections
● A Food and Clothing Drive to support “The Longest Night” and Shelters in the close community
● Collaboration with Psi Beta and the Honors Club: Beach Clean-Up and NAMI walk
Regional Leadership Development
Fifteen chapter members, including the officer team, recently represented Skyline College at the Nevada/California Fall Leadership Conference in San Jose. This professional development opportunity allowed our students to network with peers from other Community Colleges, deepen their understanding of PTK programs, and bring back valuable insights to enhance our campus community.
All this work would not be possible without the valuable support of many individuals on campus. The officer team and advisors of the Beta Theta Omicron chapter are thanking everyone for their continued support.
