On March 13, 2024, the Automotive Department invited students from five San Mateo Unified High Schools and El Camino High School onto campus for their Driving Your Future Event. These high schools do not offer automotive classes, and touring our department gives them insight into what our program offers and the types of career pathways that are available.

After a short presentation by our coordinator, Ruben Parra, and two alumni, Krista Allen and Raxell Villagracia, we watched a few industry videos. After watching the videos, students asked questions about the program and how to enroll.

The students were then split up into small groups for a tour of our program’s different buildings that housed our main subjects taught – B8 Tool Room and Engines Performance, B9 Brakes & Chassis, B10 Electricity and Engines, and B11 Transmission; the tours were led by our current students.

Lunch was served, and since it was a beautiful sunny day, everyone sat outside to enjoy the sandwiches. Students, chaperones, and staff mingled after lunch before their respective school buses picked them up at 2:00 p.m.
