On April 22, Skyline College students gathered for A Sound Healing Experience—a powerful and restorative event hosted by the CARE, CalWORKs, TRiO, EOPS, and NextUp programs. Led by Dr. Terence Elliott, a retired professor of Music and Humanities at Diablo Valley College, the event offered participants a peaceful space to pause, reflect, and recharge.

Students engaged in guided meditation and sound exploration, gaining insight into how different frequencies and vibrations can support emotional well-being, reduce stress, and promote clarity. Through the practice of toning—using vocal sound to create uplifting internal vibrations—attendees connected more deeply with their inner selves and the healing energy of sound.

Dr. Elliott shared:
“Healing in Music is a healing justice project developed to engage community members about the importance of music in our daily lives for health and wellness. We encourage and work with communities to involve them in meditating with sound instruments to reaffirm cultural building and healing. Our goal is to connect individuals to the vibrational frequencies of sound and music to enhance their well-being through breathing and toning.”

This immersive experience reflected the CARE, CalWORKs, TRiO, EOPS, and NextUp programs’ commitment to providing innovative, holistic support for student success—honoring academic achievement and mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

We extend our deepest thanks to Dr. Elliott—affectionately known as “Doc T”—for sharing his time, wisdom, and gift for creating healing through music. We look forward to welcoming him back to Skyline College again soon.
