On October 11, 2024, Skyline College proudly hosted the 3rd Annual RIDE Conference, a vibrant celebration of lowrider culture, community engagement, and educational opportunities. This year’s conference attracted a diverse group of participants, including local high schools, community colleges, community members, and esteemed lowrider clubs around the state.

Coined by Dionicio “Dino” Garcia, the R.I.D.E. acronym stands for “Realize Our True Potential. Identify Our Goals. Develop A Plan. Explore.” This innovative approach represents a custom spin on the career planning process, emphasizing the importance of personal growth and strategic planning for future success. The RIDE Conference stands as a testament to Skyline College’s commitment to fostering connections between education and cultural heritage.

Attendees were treated to various activities, including workshops, discussions, and showcases highlighting the artistry and history of lowrider culture. By bringing together students, educators, and local car enthusiasts, the event created a unique environment where learning and cultural expression could flourish.

This year, we were thrilled to collaborate with the Puente Program and the Strategic Partnerships & Workforce Development initiatives. Thanks to these collaborations, we were able to provide transportation, which allowed local high school students to participate in this enriching experience. Special thanks to the Associated Students of Skyline College for their unwavering support, Juan Roman and Skyline College’s Automotive Department for showcasing the skills and knowledge needed in the automotive field, and the President’s Innovation Fund for its generous support in making this event a reality.

The 3rd Annual RIDE Conference not only celebrated the beauty and craftsmanship of lowrider vehicles but also emphasized the importance of education and community. By connecting local students with community professionals and fostering a sense of belonging, the conference aimed to inspire the next generation of leaders.

As we reflect on the success of this year’s event, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and volunteers who made the RIDE Conference possible.
