The Financial Aid Office of Skyline College, College of San Mateo and Cañada College hosted its first annual district wide Cash for College event on Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Cañada College campus.
The financial aid application process is often an overwhelming experience for high school seniors and their parents. Comprehensive financial aid presentations and hands-on assistance in completing the 2016-2017 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and California Dream Act was provided. Approximately 100 people attended the event and workshops were conducted in both English and Spanish. A resource fair with representative from various departments such as, the Outreach Office, Counseling Division, EOPS and SparkPoint from all three colleges were available to answer questions about SMCCCD programs and services. Thank you to the Financial Aid Offices and all of the departments who contributed to making this collaborative effort such a successful event.
In addition to the district wide event on February 6, 2016, Skyline College’s Financial Aid Office presented at the annual Cash for College events at ten local high schools in both San Mateo and San Francisco County. Cash for College events are sponsored by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). The workshops are free and open to the public. Over 550 students and parents at local high schools received assistance with completing the FAFSA or California Dream Act this semester.
