On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, the student services programs of EOPS, CARE, CalWORKs, Guardian Scholars, and NextUp (ECCGN) gathered with students, faculty, staff, and the office of Student Equity & Support Services to share a little bit of fireside warmth before finals week. The gathering was held in Skyline College’s Intercultural Center. It featured lots of holiday treats and warm drinks including a holiday hot chocolate bar where attendees could build their own cups of hot chocolate with all the holiday fixings! Time spent together also included engaging in ornament making, gingerbread village building, and holiday-themed games. It was great having our students allow themselves some time to pause with the community before the start of finals. Thank you to the ECCGN team members (Rocio Aguilar-Pedroza, Bo Aleonar, Guillermo Alonzo, Lucy Jovel, Mandy Lucas, Jose Milan, Suzanne Poma, Karmann Robbins), student ambassadors (Diego Barcenas, CeCe Martinez, Mumina Masumova), and SESP office for their efforts in making the gathering such a beautiful experience.
The EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs programs also wrapped up the semester with their annual Gift Giving Tree. The Gift Giving Tree allows student parents in the ECCGN programs to receive holiday gifts for their children through the generosity of our campus community. Thanks to all our staff and faculty at Skyline College who participated and made a huge difference this holiday season for the families, providing gifts for 55 children! Thanks to our CARE/CalWORKs program staff and faculty (Rocio Aguilar-Pedroza, Jose Milan, Karmann Robbins) for coordinating these great efforts each year.
