Design Thinking Deep Dive for Faculty

design thinkingWelcome back and we hope Spring 2018 is off to a great start! The Center for Career and Workforce Programs is thrilled to share, as part of the Strong Workforce Program, a highly engaging workshop series: Design Thinking Deep Dive. This experience is a partnership with SAP and Maureen Carroll, Ph.D. founder of Lime Design Associates and lecturer at Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school) where she co-teaches Hacking Your Innovation Mindset and the d.school Fellowship Program as a Design Ally. Additionally, she is the director of Stanford University’s REDlab, which conducts research on the intersection of design thinking and learning.

Participants of the Design Thinking Deep Dive will mirror the teachings from the d. school which builds on methods from across the field of design to create learning experiences that help individuals unlock their creative potential and apply it to the world. This opportunity is designed to engage faculty in developing design thinkers to innovate, create, and act as empowered change agents to prepare and meet the challenges and opportunities of leading and learning in the 21st century. Participants will gain both an understanding of the design thinking process, build a common language around innovation, and develop the creative confidence to begin to apply the process to solve problems of practice within their school community and classrooms.

Marketing Office Welcomes Connor Fitzpatrick as Communications Manager

Connor FitzpatrickThe Marketing, Communications and Public Relations Office is pleased to welcome Connor Fitzpatrick as the new Communications Manager. Connor has been the Interim Communications Manager since August 2017.

Connor comes into this role with extensive experience in web, communications, and public relations. For three years, Connor served as the Web Content Coordinator for the college, guiding the website’s transition into a responsive, mobile-friendly design. In that role, Connor helped to shape the visual and written online identity of the college and ensured that users could access the information they needed no matter the device they were using. Connor also brought his communications and design savvy to bare in the annual report, taking lead on drafting and editing content, and the transition of the print catalog to a fully online version. He has also implemented new software, consulted on marketing and ad campaigns for the college, and managed social media.

Prior to his time at Skyline College, Connor spent a year as a freelance graphic designer and copywriter. Connor also spent several years working in Public Relations at Burson-Marsteller, a leading global PR firm. Working for clients like Coca-Cola, Bank of America, Johnson & Johnson, and San Francisco International Airport, Connor led regional media relations efforts, designed and drafted annual reports, coordinated media trainings, and developed corporate messaging platforms, among other market research and PR services. Immediately out of college, Connor worked as a research assistant on the No on Proposition 23 campaign, a bipartisan campaign to protect California’s climate change laws from major oil companies.

Connor graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from UCLA.
